A friend of mine and myself just killed a guy with whom we are at war with (relax - this was a legal kill) but the "victim" setup his Celstis a bit strange apparently:
Clestis for PvP ?!?
(pulled from the wreckage) 1x 150mm Rail 2x Dual 150mm Rails 1x Assault Missile Launcher 1x Medium Shield Extender 1x 7% Armor Plating 1x 2x Entergized Adaptive Nano I (15% resists) 1x Small Hull Repairer (assumed to be in cargo, just in case) 1x Type-E Power Core (-10% Cap +20% Cap Recharge)
Looks to me like this guy was sacraficing firepower for some kind of mixture of shield taking and armor taking and it almost worked as he almost destroyed my MOA - well my cap was gone but I was still firing heavy missiles (scourge and thunderbolt) compared with the light missiles the Celestis was firing. Most of the battle was conducted at 10km range so I could keep the Celestis locked down with my webber and warp prohibitor. It just seems strange that the Celestis wasn't trying to run cuz he had multiple chances to get away as my friend's Dominix was setup defensivly with shield hardeners rather than webber/scrambler and the Celestis was conducting hit/run tactics against the Dominix who was guarding the gate the Celestis wanted to use to get home.
I happened to be checking the 2 stations that were in this system cuz it looked like the Celestis was using a station to refit his ship and make repairs and I happened to come across the Celestis after undocking the 2nd station so I target-locked and webbed/scrambled and then took damage until I could get clear of the station since the Celestis was station-hugging and I didn't want to risk the station's turrets firing on me assuming the game was still borked for station defense turrets when stations take battle damage. I was down to 80% hull with no shields and no armor and no cap when my friend was able to get his Dominix in position to get into the fight since it was my job to keep the Celestis from warping away or redocking. Needless to say, since it was a 2 versus 1 fight the Celestis was destroyed and the pilot podded by the Dominix's 350mm guns. It's really too bad the Celestis was not setup better since he might have destroyed my MOA had he been using 250mm Rails and heavy missiles.
Just in case anyone wanted to know: (heck I might even learn something about my setup)
MOA Setup:
Hi: 1x 200mm Rail using Iron charges 3x 250mm Rails using Iridium charges 2x Heavy Missile Launchers using Scourge/Thunderbolt
Med: 1x 10MN MWD 1x Webber 1x Warp Prohibitor 1x Small shield booster
Low: 2x RCU I 1x PDU I 1x Missile Control System I
The MOA's cap recharge rate is too low at 290 secs so this is why I ran my cap dry using the webber and scrambler so I could swap out the Missile Control System for a Cap Power Relay but I wanted my missiles to have a damage boost since missiles fire even when cap is dry. I could swap out the Small Shield Booster for a Cap Recharger II since I didn't even get to use the Small Shield Booster at all during the battle.
Dominix Setup:
Hi: 2x Dual 250mm Rails using Iron charges (makes both types of guns have the same range) 4x 350mm Rails using Iridium charges
Med: 1x 100MN MWD 1x Supplemental Scanning CPU I 1x Thermal Shield Hardener 1x Photon Shield Hardener 1x XL Shield Booster
Low: 2x CPR I 2x RCU I 1x Photonic CPU (+7.2%) 1x Mag Field Stab II 1x Tracking Enhancer II
During one hit/run attack the Celestis took 75% damage to his ship whilst only dinging the Dominix's shields about 10% - Duh ! I think we all know a Celestis ain't gonna kill a Dominix unless the Dom pilot is asleep or something.
Any comments about these setups ? |

If it was him against you, this would be his thread........ I'm not sure which would be more amusing
Well not exactly... as I said the Celestis did fire first cuz my MOA was real close to the station and I didn't want to find out the hard what that the game was still borked for splash dmg fom heavy missiles so while I was repositioning my MOA without losing wbber/scrambler effectiveness I lost my shields and then by the time I was firing heavy missiles and using guns (guns were a waste of time due to the setup at close range) my heavy missiles would have wasted the Celestis before my ship would have gone poof so I called for my friend to move in for the kill just for "spite". Otherwise the Celestis would have been toast much faster using just the MOA but since my corp and my friends corp both delcared War on the Celestis's pilot's corp both my friend and I wanted to make sure the Celestis pilot knew he was in deep kimshee in case he had any future plans for remaining in the War which he didn't cuz he bailed outta his corp that is at War to be a privateer so he can continue his evil ore thievery ways in some 0.3 system where I can still gank him (again for "spite") at the loss of sec rating, etc. |

Are you ever going to post something that doesnt make you look like the worst PVPer ever?
For the next part of this exciting story, mebbye you could tell us about the time you killed an ibis with a rifter, and how he almost got you. Or that damned indy that almost killed your cruiser.
So I'm the "worst" PvP'er ever, huh ? Well that's okay since I'm not the one who lost his ship... |

hehe would have been funny if you did
I would have considered it an acceptable loss to throw away a ship I can easily replace for the pleasure of watching an enemy die... keep in mind my friend still had his Dominix so even if I had lost my MOA the military objective (don't hear this being talked about much in EVE forums) "the military objective" would have been accomplished. In the real world, "military objectives" are everything and losses are acceptable as long as the "military objectives" are accomplished. So in this case the fact that I paid 700000 isk to repair my ship was completely acceptable to me cuz I got to watch the enemy die which was of course the "military objective". |

I'm not into this sort of pvp but maybe his "military objective" may have been to fight you with a budget setup........there by enabling him to suffer twice the ship losses you do, with only half the isk risked......and at the same time learn a great deal about your fighting stlye and weaknesses, in your favourite ship/setup........
All B.S. aside let's look at the results of this particular PvP encounter:
* the Celestis was destroyed (cost 1m - 5m) * the Celestis pilot was podded (aka killed) (cost 1 clone) * the Celestis pilot left the corp he was in to avoid future encounters * my MOA was repaired (cost 700000 isk)
You seem to think the Celestis pilot is much smarter than he appeared to be... he died ! You seem to think the Celestis pilot was gathering intelligence about tactics... he fled his corp to avoid future PvP encounters with my combat team.
I'll spend 700000 isk every day of the week to destroy 1m - 5m worth of enemy assets; heck I'd even spend 1m isk to destroy 1m isk worth of enemy assets. By any measure I think we can all agree the encounter was a huge success for me and mine and a huge failure for the Celestis pilot. I'd even call it "fun", well for me and mine anyway. |
